Warner bros film company.

The studio for Warner bros was built on farmland in 1926 by First National pictures which Warner bros acquired later in 1928 which following the success of "The Jazz singer" which is the historic first "talking picture. By 1929 Warner bros were turning out movies at a fast pace including 86 features alone.

By the early 1930's films such as "Little Caesar" and "The public enemy" the era of the classic warner gangster dramas was on the start as well as the start of the studio.

By the late 1930's businesses were booming and by this time Warner bros had constructed nine new sound stages which are still used today. The company at this time was developing its own brand of animation at a Hollywood annex affectionately known as the "TemiteTerrance" from the drawings of Tex Avery, Bob clampett, chuck Jones, Friz Freleng and Bob Mckimson became very famous characters even today of the Looney tunes and Melodies cartoons.

Credit typography.

We researched some fonts for our credits. We wanted a specific type of font for our film credits as it is called scratch we wanted to give an effect of the scratching within the credits. The title scratch symbolises the film greatly and would be good to show this through the credits.

We looked at many fonts and found two certain fonts that we thought would be suitable for the scratching effect we want to show. Below are the two fonts we found.

The first typography we have looked at is scratch font one. We liked this typography as it looks as if it has been scratched in to something and this is the effect we want to create. I we use it for the credits it will show continuity between the opening and the film its self.

The second typography we have looked at is scratch font two, 'Nail scratch'. We thought this
gave more of a subtle effect as it doesn't looked
as scratched,

After researching some scratched fonts, we came up with an idea and have decided to use scratching or writing to make a scratched affect, the credits into objects for example, Trees, walls, the ground or a locker. This will give the effect of actual scratching and show what the film is about and showing the title name, 'scratch'. This way also may give more Suspense and suspicion towards the audience as normally credits have a specific computerised font whereas we will not.

The scratch characters.

We only have two characters for the opening to our thriller film. We have decided to have a man and a woman. The man is seen but the woman isn't seen.

Woman- The woman is not seen withing the opening of the thriller. She is only shown through a Shadow and only a shadow. The identify of the woman will be unknown. It is clear in the opening that she is the killer of the man that dies and uses a small handgun to do so.

Man- This man has not name when we show him in the opening sequence. He wears clothes that suits that time period and makes him look very sophisticated, the clothes and accessories that he wears all match and the way he talks suits what he wears. The first times we are showing the man in the opening is when he is walking down the corridor with his heels clicking against the floor. The way we want to shoot him is to make him look very tall and elegant.

Before the opening the plan is for the man to have just murdered his wife after finding out that she committed adultery against him. So we are showing after he has committed the crime we try to show that he is frustrated through the use of shots have planned. We show him smashing the photo of him and his wife and then is confronted by the shadow which is infact a woman. the man is then killed.

CGI
CGI formally known as computer generated imagery is used for computer graphics, special effects in films, television programmes, advertisements etc. (which 3D computer graphics software can be used for). Computer generated imagery effects are more controllable than a more physical based process effect. If computer generated imagery was not involved then constructing miniatures for effects shots and hiring extras for crowd scenes would be needed. If computer imagery was involved then a single graphic artist can produce all of what would be needed without the use of actors, expensive set pieces, or props, which would be a better advantage to using computer imagery.
CGI was first used in film's 1973 however CGI was used since 1973 there had not been a full length CGI film since 1995 when Toy story was created. There would have been a full length CGI film earlier that had began in 1978 called the The Works, but it was never completed. When toy story was a success many other companies such as 20th Century Fox, Paramount pictures and Warner Bros, Columbia pictures, and many more including existing animation companies, such as The Walt Disney Company all went from traditional animation to CGI. This had quite an impact between 1995 and 2005 as the average effects budget wide-release feature film went for $5 million to $40 million.
When the early 2000's arrived CGI was used alot more for special effects. The technology became more advanced as CGI could now be possible to do to virtual stunt doubles which till that point was impossible. Even the Camera tracking software was refined to allow increasing complex visual effects developments that were previously impossible. CGI has been sucessful over the years that it has started to the present where it is still used.
My partner and I made sure we brainstormed our ideas on what our film title should be and we both came up with different ideas then promoted it towards our target auidence.
  • The Hidden code
  • Scratch
  • Lacerator
  • The scarifier

Above are the names we thought for the title of our film as we tried to relate what we was showing in the part of the film in the title.

We then after thinking of titles, promoted these titles to 25 people of the target auidence after showing them the general plot we then got feedback on what they thought out of the names we gave would be suitable for the final title. I have shown this through tally's.

  • Hidden code- 5 votes
  • scratch- 9 votes
  • Lacerator- 4 votes
  • The scarifier- 7 votes

After this research we found the title that was most popular with the target auidence was the title Scratch. With this result we have decided to use that title.
